The Star Tarot Card Meaning
Major Arcana · XVII
Keywords: hope, renewal, inspiration, serenity, healing
Upright meaning
Hope, healing, and the serene certainty that the universe is working in your favor.
After the destruction of The Tower comes The Star — a woman kneeling by a pool under a vast, starlit sky, pouring water from two vessels into the earth and the water in an endless cycle of renewal. Eight stars shine above her, the largest star representing divine guidance. This is a card of profound hope, healing, and restored faith. You have come through something difficult, and now the universe is offering you a chance to be renewed. Your wishes are heard. Your healing is underway. Trust the light that is guiding you even through the darkness.
Reversed meaning
Loss of faith, hopelessness, or a disconnection from your sense of purpose and inspiration.
Reversed, The Star indicates a loss of hope or faith — a feeling of purposelessness, despair, or disconnection from the sense that things will work out. The healing that is available to you feels out of reach because you are not allowing yourself to receive it. This card asks you to open to hope again, even incrementally. Despair is a temporary condition, not a permanent reality.
In love
After a period of difficulty in love, healing and hope arrive. A beautiful, soul-nourishing connection is possible now. Allow yourself to be loved as fully as you love others.
Feeling hopeless about love after repeated disappointments. A temporary disconnection from the belief that deep, lasting love is possible for you. Be gentle with yourself.
In career
Inspiration, renewed purpose, and the sense that your work is genuinely meaningful. A creative project or career path that reflects your authentic gifts is highlighted.
Loss of professional inspiration, feeling burned out or purposeless, or a sense that your talents are being wasted. Reconnect with what originally inspired you.
Spiritual meaning
You are being held by something far larger than your circumstances. The universe is speaking directly to your soul right now — listen with your whole heart and receive what is being offered.
